WHAT HAPPENED?
Bellingham endured perhaps his worst moment in a Madrid shirt to date Saturday afternoon, when he was shown a straight red card for dissent towards the end of the first half of Los Blancos' clash with Osasuna. The midfielder appeared to make a remark towards the referee after back-to-back no-calls on heavy challenges on his teammates. After a brief exchange, the referee gave him his marching orders.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The decision came amidst a chippy first half between Los Blancos and the relegation-threatened side. Madrid were repeatedly incensed by the referee's reluctance to award decisions in their favour. They felt that they should have been awarded a penalty early on when there was contact on Vinicius Jr in the box, while Kylian Mbappe was twice on the end of hard tackles. Mbappe's early goal ensured they had a 1-0 advantage at the time of the incident.

DID YOU KNOW?
This is the second red card of Bellingham's Madrid tenure. He was also sent off following full time of a 2-2 draw with Valencia in March 2024.

WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?
The midfielder faces at least one game on the sidelines for his red – although La Liga may elect to extend that ban given it was awarded for an exchange with a referee. A one-game ban is handed out for a "professional foul", while "violent conduct" tends to lead to two.
